Saints Split at Point Park

PITTSBURGH -- The Siena Heights softball team split its doubleheader at Point Park on Saturday afternoon. Game one was a 7-3 loss while game two was a 9-3 win. Sam Spicer led the way with five hits on the day including a 4-4 outing in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Point Park scored three runs in both the 3rd-inning and the 6th-inning to earn the 7-3 win in the first game. The Saints runs came in the final inning during the last-minute rally attempt. Lily Guerra hit a 2-RBI single and Kelsey Uhl used a sacrifice fly to score Julia Hogston before the Pioneers ended the game for the win.

The Saints used a three-run 3rd-inning and four-run seventh to end the day with a 9-3 win. Uhl hit a 2-RBI single in the 3rd-inning to gain a 2-1 lead. Spicer brought Uhl home on the next play with a single for the 3-1 advantage. Guerra and Kat Moreau both scored on ground outs in the fifth and sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-2. Uhl singles in the seventh to score Sam Hill for the 6-3 advantage. Spicer hit an RBI single to bring Milah Loose home and Emily Spinek came home on a ground out for the final run. 

TOP SAINTS

Hitting

• Hill, Guerra, Haley Rose, Spicer, Herrera, Tori Harding, Alyssa Marshall, and Hogston each had a run in the first game. 

• Guerra totaled two RBIs in the opener while Uhl had the other.

• Hill, Guerra, and Uhl each had two hits in game two. Uhl also tallied four RBIs in the second contest.

• Spicer finished the day with two RBIs in her four-hit performance.

Pitching

• Uhl pitched 5.1 innings in a losing effort. She allowed nine hits and struck out one batter.

Jordan Green (W, 4-2) pitched a complete game. She surrendered five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven hitters.

THE OPPOSITION

Hitting

• Maddie Horn led in game one going 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

• Jada Simon was 2-3 with an RBI to lead in game two.

Pitching

• Angalee Beall threw a complete game. She allowed eight hits and struck out one Saint in the win.

• Simon also got the start in the circle, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up nine hits and five earned runs.

UP NEXT

The Saints will face Carlow tomorrow (Sunday, March 22) in a doubleheader at Fairhaven Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
