Saints Win Two at Hannibal-LaGrange

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- The Siena Heights softball team won both games at Hannibal-LaGrange on Friday afternoon. The Saints won the first game 1-0 on a run by Lily Guerra in the 1st-inning. Game two had a 5-3 result. Sam Hill had a good day at the plate for Siena Heights as she tallied five hits in the two contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: SHU def. Hannibal-LaGrange, 1-0

Hill got things going with a single to lead off the game. Guerra then followed with a single to move Hill to second base. Sam Spicer then grounded into a double play while advancing Hill to third. An error by the third basemen allowed Guerra to score and give the Saints the 1-0 lead. Siena left a runner on base in the third and the Trojans left two runners on base in the 5th-inning to keep the score throughout game one.

Game 2: SHU def. Hannibal-LaGrange, 5-3

Spicer puts the Saints on the board, 1-0, with an RBI-single that scored Hill in the 3rd-inning. Tori Harding then hit an RBI-double in the fourth to bring Kelsey Uhl home and increase the SHU advantage to 2-0. A wild pitch advanced Harding and gave Maddie Herrera a run for a 3-0, Siena Heights lead. Julia Hogston then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Harding and the Saints led 4-0. Guerra ended the scoring in the fourth with a single that brought Janelle Krueger home. The Trojans scored a fourth and two in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3, but SHU held on to capture the win in game two.

TOP SAINTS

Hitting

• Hill was 2-3 in game one and 3-4 in game two.

• Guerra and Harding each recorded a hit in the first game. Guerra added two hits (2-3) in the second game and an RBI. Harding was 1-4 in game two while scoring a run and an RBI.

• Herrera and Uhl also had two hits and a run in game two.

Pitching

• Uhl (W, 2-1) pitched a complete game in the first contest of the doubleheader. She allowed only two hits and struck out six batters.

Jordan Green (W, 2-1) earned the win in game two with 5.0 innings pitched. In that time she gave up six hits and three runs while striking out five.

• Kiley Elboar recorded her first save of the season in relief during the nightcap. She pitched two innings to maintain the lead and help the Saints earn the win.

THE OPPOSITION

Hitting

• Michaela Badger and Sydney Miler each recorded a hit in game one.

• Samantha Zielinski was 2-4 in game two with an RBI.

Pitching

• Sicily Johnston (L) pitched all seven innings for the Trojans. She allowed four hits and one run. She struck out two. 

• Valeria Smith (L) pitched four innings and gave up eight hits and five runs in the losing effort.
