Saints Claim Two More Wins in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights softball team won both games on day three of the spring games in Florida. The Saints beat Trinity International 1-0 in the first game before toppling (RV) Bellevue (Neb.) 7-2 to finish the day. Sam Hill (Willis, Mich.) had a fantastic day as she went 6-for-8 on the day to help lead Siena to an even 3-3 record for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: SHU def. TIU, 1-0

Hill scored the only run with an RBI single that scored Lily Guerra (Rockford, Mich.) at the bottom of the 2nd-inning. Erika Schwartz (Rapid River, Mich.) (W, 1-0) dominated in the circle for the Saints. She pitched five innings, allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out six batters on her way to the win.

TOP SAINTS

• Hill was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. She was walked once and tallied the games only RBI.

Jordan Bianchi (Shelby Twp., Mich.) Hayley Turk (Clinton, Mich.), Tori Harding (Hastings, Mich.), Taylor Mowery (Fenton, Mich), and Guerra each registered a hit.

Kiley Elbaor (Highland, Ind.) earned a two-inning save while allowing two hits and striking out two batters.

THE OPPOSITION

 • Four different Trojans registered a single hit.

• Alyssa Frey allowed seven hits, one run, and six strikeouts in the losing effort.

Game 2: SHU def. BU 7-2

Haley Rose (Napoleon, Mich.) gave the Saints an instant 3-0 lead with a three-run home run in the top of the 1st-inning. Kristi Carlson (Macomb, Mich.) added two more runs with her own home run in the 2nd-inning.

Carlson scored Hill at the top of the 6th-inning to extend the lead to 6-0. Three-straight walks scored Carlson and gave Rose an RBI and the Saints a 7-0 advantage.

The Bruins got on the board in the 7th-inning with an RBI single and then a sacrifice fly but the Saints recorded the third out before Bellevue could catch Siena.

TOP SAINTS

• Hill was 3-for-5 while scoring two runs.

• Carlson also had three hits as she was 3-for-4. She scored three runs and had three RBIs.

Kelsey Uhl (W, 1-2) (Toledo, Ohio) earned her first win of the season. She pitched a complete game while allowing four hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out five Bruins.

UP NEXT

The Saints get the day off tomorrow before returning to action in Florida on Wednesday, March 4 with a 10:00 a.m. game against Webber International followed by a 12:15 p.m. game against Bethel (Ind.).
