Six SHU Sotball Players Named 2019 NAIA Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY -- Six members of the Siena Heights softball team were among the 510 women's softball student-athletes on the 2019 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes list announced by the national office this afternoon. Recent graduates Kayla Boland, Ashley Helmink, and Ashley Bearden were honored as a scholar-athlete for the second consecutive year. Graduate Racquel Ward and juniors Jordan Bianchi and Erika Schwartz were also on the 2019 list.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.

Madonna and Lawrence Tech led all Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) member schools with eight scholar-athletes. SHU and UNOH each totaled six student-athletes while Concordia (Mich.), Cornerstone, and Michigan-Dearborn added four scholar-athletes. Aquinas and Indiana Tech had three players chosen. Lourdes and Rochester rounded out the WHAC teams with two and one scholar-athletes respectively.
