Saints Sweep WHAC Softball Weekly Awards

The Siena Heights softball team swept the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) weekly awards for the second time this season as freshman Kelsey Uhl was named WHAC pitcher of the week and senior Ashley Helmink was chosen the player of the week.

Uhl won two games last week in the circle for the Saints. Her first win came in a 12-2 win over Roosevelt where she allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. In the second game of the series with the Lakers, she earned the save as she pitched one inning of relief to help seal the 8-6 win for Siena. Her second win came in game one of the doubleheader against Point Park in which she pitched all seven innings and gave up five hits while striking out four Pioneer batters.

Helmink extended her hitting streak to 10-straight games as she finished the week with 10 hits to lead Siena to a 6-0 record on the week and a 15-3 mark overall. She belted two home runs and batted seven runners across the plate while scoring 11 runs herself.

This is the first conference weekly award of Uhl's career while Helmink adds her second honor this year.
