The Siena Heights Softball Team split a pair of games on Friday, defeating West Virginia Tech by a score of 17-5, before falling to Southwest Minnesota State by a score of 8-6.
In the first game, the Saints allowed a run in the first before taking the lead with four runs in the second. The game ended up tied after two innings at four. Two runs for the Saints in the third, followed by a single run in the fourth pushed the lead to 7-4, a ten run fifth inning sealed the game. For the game, the Saints pounded out 15 hits and capitalized on four WV Tech errors.
Kyndle Wolfinger went 1-4 with a run and a RBI, Kenya Keller was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI, Kris Forest went 1-2 with a run, Megan Jones scored a run, Hannah Bleikamp was 3-3 with three doubles, four runs, and two RBI, Lexi Agers went 2-2 with two runs, a double and three RBI, Kelsey Cherry was 2-3 with three runs, a double and three RBI, Katie Hybl scored a run and added two RBI, and Hailey Fox was 4-4 with a run and two RBI. Kayla Kormos got the complete game win on the mound, striking out three.
In game two the bats were hot as the teams combined for 25 hits. After falling behind in the top of the second, the Saints took the lead in the bottom of the second to see the game tied at three in the top of the third. A solo run in the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fifth put the Saints up two going in to the 6th inning. However, a five run sixth was too much for the Saints to overcome, they tacked on one run in the 7th, but it wasn't enough.
Wolfinger was 1-3 with two runs, Keller went 3-4 with a run scored, Forest went 2-4 with a RBI, Jones added a 3-4 game with a double, a run, and a RBI, Ashley Helmink went 1-3 with a run, and Amy Nordstrom was 1-3 with a three run homerun. Lesley Ducat started on the mound and took the loss, throwing five plus innings and striking out six. Lindsay Brandon came on in relief and allowed one run and struck out one in her two innings.
With the split, the Saints move to 9-3 on the season. They will wrap up their spring trip on Saturday with rematch games with Hannibal LaGrange and Marian.
