Saints Have Huge Fifth Inning To Defeat Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team split with No. 11 Davenport on Sunday. SHU lost 8-2 in game one and came back and defeated DU 8-7 in game two.

In game one, the Panthers scored first, putting three runs up on the board in the bottom of two. SHU came back and scored two runs in the top of three. Davenport added three more runs to their lead in the fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth.

Leading SHU was Kelsie Abbott and Kris Forest each with a double and a RBI. Kyndle Wolfinger and Hannah Bleikamp each had a stolen base. Lesley Ducat takes the loss in the circle. She threw five innings gave up nine hits, eight runs, five being earned, two walks and one strike out.

In game two, the Panthers jumped on the board first, putting one run up in the first. DU scored two runs in the third and the fourth. SHU had a huge fifth inning pushing eight runs across. Davenport scored two in the bottom and neither team went on to score.

Wolfinger, Skylar Crenshaw and Megan Jones each had two hits. Abbott gets her seventh win in the circle. She went all seven innings, gave up 11 hits, seven runs, five being earned, one walk and had three strike outs.

The Siena Height softball team (19-17, 5-3) will return to action on Tuesday, April 19, as they travel to Adrian for a double-header starting at 4 p.m.
