Abbott Named WHAC Pitcher and Player of the Week

Sophomore Kelsie Abbott, member of the Siena Heights softball team, was named Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

For the week, the Saints went 6-0. Overall SHU is 15-13 and 2-0 in the conference.

On the mound, Abbott threw 18.1 innings for the week, allowing only 16 hits and seven runs and earning a win in three games she pitched--the fourth game was no-decision. She was the relief pitcher in game one against Indiana Tech, throwing 4.1 innings and allowed only two hits and no runs. Abbott threw the complete seven inning game in game two, allowing three runs in one inning, but had a solid performance for the remainder of the day.

At the plate, Abbott went 9-of-17 for the week to earn a 0.529 batting average and 1.059 slugging average. Had the game-tying RBI against Saint Francis (Ind.) in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep the Saints alive. Abbott hit a triple to send home the game-winning RBI against Indiana Tech in the first game. She went 3-for-6 with two outs and runners on. She's now batting .466 with 33 RBIs in 28 games.
