Abbott Has A Cycle On The Day And Throws Two Wins

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team started Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play today as they hosted Indiana Tech. The Saints defeated the Warriors in game one 12 to 9, and 8 to 3 in game two.

In game one, Indiana Tech scored first with a wild pitch. SHU rallied back to keep the game tied and Kelsey Cherry drove in Hailey Fox. In the bottom of the second the Saints pushed six runs across the board. The Warriors scored eight runs in the top of three. Kris Forest led the Saints strong in the bottom of three with a home run to right center. Kelsie Abbott finished the game with a home run to right center.

Abbott and Kenya Keller each had three hits in game one. Abbott had a single, triple, a home run and drove in five runs. Keller had a triple and drove in two runs. Abbott gets the win on the mound. She pitched 4.1 innings, gave up two hits, one walk and struck out four Warrior batters.

In game two, the Saints struck first in the bottom of two as they put four runs on the board. Tech (11-19, 0-2) rallied the bats and put three up in the top of three. SHU was able to add one run to the lead in the fourth and three more in the bottom of six.

Forest led the Saints in game two with two hits and two RBIs. Abbott and Keller each had a double and two RBIs, Megan Jones had a double and drove in a run, while Kyndle Wolfinger had an RBI single. Abbott gets the win for game two in the circle also. She went all seven innings, gave up six hits, three runs, all earned, one walk and had two strike outs.

The Saints (15-13, 2-0) will travel to Cleary on Wednesday, Apr. 6 for a double-header that starts at 3:30.
