Softball Defeats Spring Arbor In Home Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's softball team defeated Spring Arbor with scores of 6-2 and 8-3 on Wednesday. 

In the first game, the Saints fell behind early 2-0 in the top of the third. SHU was able to tie the game in the bottom of 4. Saints got the bats going in the bottom of the sixth when they pushed four runs across. 

Kelsie Abbott led the team with three hits, followed by Hannah Bleikamp and Kenya Keller who each had two hits. Kelsey Cherry, Abbott and Bleikamp each drove in two runs for the Saints. Lesley Ducat got the win on the mound for SHU earning one strike out. 

In the second game, the Cougars (9-9) jumped ahead early in the first with a solo home run from Savannah Weaver. The Saints tie the game back up in the bottom of the second. SHU had a really big third inning pushing five runs across the plate.

Abbott and Cherry led the way with two hits each. Bleikamp had 3 RBIs while Abbott had two. Olivia Smith gets her third win on the mound and first complete game as a Saint and had five strike outs.

Siena Heights (7-9) will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 18 as they host the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats for a double-header starting at 3 p.m.
