Softball Splits a Pair In Arizona

Tucson, ARZ: The Siena Heights Softball Team split a pair of games in Arizona, winning against Dordt by a score of 6-4 before losing to Cardinal Stritch by a score of 2-1.

In game one, the Saints capitalized on a five run first inning and didn't look back.  Dordt pulled to within two and made it 5-3 in the fourth before SHU tacked on a solo run in the sixth which Dordt answered in their half of the sixth for the final score of 6-4.

Kenya Keller, Hannah Bleikamp and Skylar Crenshaw each had a pair of hits for the Saints.  Keller knocked a solo homerun in the 6th for the lone run that inning.  Bleikamp had a two RBI double in the first inning while Crenshaw also had an RBI in the first.  Kelsie Abbott had the other RBI for the Saints with Kyndle Wolfinger and Hailey Fox also adding hits for the Saints.

Olivia Smith got the start on the mound earning the win.  Smith threw three and two-thirds innings allowing three runs and striking out five batters.  Lesley Ducat came on in relief and earned the save, throwing three and one-thirds innings allowing one run and striking out five.

In game two, against Cardinal Stritch (RV), the Saints gave up a run in the first and another in the fourth.  SHU got a solo run in the fourth to pull back to within one run, but couldn't plate another one, dropping their fifth one run loss of the season.

Abbott was the hard luck loser on the mound, throwing four innings while striking out three.  Ducat once again came on in relief, throwing the final three innings and striking out two.

Offensively, the bats mustered only four hits.  Crenshaw had two of the hits for the Saints with Abbott and Kris Forest adding the other two hits.  Abbott scored the Saints' lone run with Crenshaw driving her in.

With the split, the Saints record now stands at 4-8.  They will return to action on Saturday with games against Olivet Nazarene and Mount Marty at 9 and 11 before heading back to Michigan Saturday night.
