Softball Falls In Extra Innings

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights women's softball team lost two close games today, the first to William Penn (Iowa) with a score 4-3, and the second to Saint Francis (Ill.) by a score of 6-5 in 8 innings of play. 

SHU fell behind early with William Penn taking the lead in the bottom of the first. The Saints came back and tied it in the top of fourth. Penn was able to push another two runs across in the fifth. SHU tied the game in the top of seven, before Penn finished the game with a walk off single. 

The Saints out hit William Penn 8 to 6. Kelsie Abbott, Amy Nordstrom and Hannah Bleikamp each had two hits. Abbott drove in two of the Saints runs while Nordstrom drove in the one. Abbott take the loss today earning eight stike outs. 

In the second game, SHU took an early 2-0 lead as we went into the bottom of five. Saint Francis (Ill.) pushed accross three runs, taking the lead. The Saints were able to push another run across in the top of the sixth inning, sending the game into extra innings. SHU pushed tw across in the top of the eighth. Saint Francis rallied back for the win. 

Siena Heights out hit Saint Francis (Ill.) 13-5, Abbott and Kenya Keller having three hits each. Skylar Crenshaw and Kyndle Wolfinger each adding two hits. Abbott finished game two with two RBIs while Keller and Crenshaw each had one. Lesley Ducat took the loss on the mound, she had five strike outs today. 

The Saints (3-7) will be back in action Thursday, Mar. 11, as they take on Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 11 a.m. and Dordt at 1:30 p.m.
