Softball Splits a Pair in Arizona

Tucson, ARZ: The Siena Heights Softball Team split their two games today, dropping the early game to Concordia (Neb.) by a score of 9-4 before winning the second game of the day with an 8-2 win over Missouri Valley.

In the opener, the Saints made four costly errors which led directly to three of the nine runs.  After finding themselves down 6-0 at the end of four innings, they scored four runs in the top of the 5th before allowing three more runs in the bottom of the 6th for the final score.

Hannah Bleikamp got the Saints offense rolling with a solo homerun.  Kelsie Abbott added a two RBI triple with Megan Jones adding the other RBI.  Siena Heights was only able to muster six hits on the game with Bleikamp accounting for two, Abbott, Jones, Skylar Crenshaw, and Kris Forest adding the other hits.  Abbott took the loss on the mound, striking out two along the way.

In the second game, the Saints rebounded scoring runs in five of their six at-bats.  Kenya Keller got the Saints on the board on the first pitch of the game with a long homerun.  Keller ended the game with a 1-1 line with three runs scored.  Kydle Wolfinger went 2-4 with two runs scored and a double, Abbott added a 2-3 game with a double and three RBI, Tiffany Jones added a two RBI double, Forest went 2-2, Kelsey Lampkowski was 1-2 with an RBI, Arica Vasquez added a 1-2 game, while Amy Nordstrom went 2-3 with an RBI.

Lesley Ducat earned the win, throwing six innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.  Olivia Smith threw a scoreless 7th inning to end the game.

With the split, the Saints record stands at 3-3.  They will return to action on Tuesday with games against Jamestown and Presentation.
