Softball Drops Two Tough One Run Losses to Open Season

TUCSON, ARZ: The Siena Heights Softball Team dropped a pair of tough games to open their 2016 campaign, falling by a score of 1-0 to Great Falls, followed by a 4-3 loss to Northwest.

In game one, the Saints spoiled a great start on the mound by Lesley Ducat.  Ducat, making her Saints' debut, threw the complete six innings, allowing only five hits and one run, while inducing ten ground ball outs.  Great Falls scored their lone run in the fifth inning.

Offensively, the Saints managed only five base runners on the day with solo hits by Kris Forest, Skylar Crenshaw (double), and Hailey Fox. Kenya Keller was the only other baserunner on the day, with two walks.

In game two, the Saints opened up two leads, a 1-0 lead after the top of the first and then a 3-1 lead after the top of the second, but then were unable to get the key hit and found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard with a 4-3 loss to Northwest.

Keller led the Saints offensively with a 3-4 game including two RBI.  Megan Jones had a hit and the other RBI on the game.  Fox had another two hits in the nightcap while Amy Nordstrom (double) and Kyndle Wolfinger had the other hits for the Saints.

Kelsie Abbott took the loss on the mound throwing the complete game.  She allowed four runs, three earned runs, and seven hits while striking out five batters.

With the loss, the Saints start their season 0-2.  They will return to action on Sunday with games against Purdue North Central and Ashford.
