Men's Volleyball Defeats Viterbo, Falls To CCSJ

WHITING, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, defeating Viterbo 3-0 before falling to host Calumet 3-0.

The Saints (9-11) will play next when they host WHAC opponent Aquinas on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Match one: Siena Heights 3, Viterbo 0
Set scores: SHU 25-12, 25-16, 25-20

Marc Arsenault had eight kills and three blocks while Zak Tucker provided an all-around effort of 28 assists, nine digs, three blocks and two aces.

Daniell Rua added seven kills and two aces and Rasi Bailey finished with six kills and five blocks. Jakob Pickett was in on four blocks.

The Saints jumped out to a 6-1 start in the opening set of the day and took an early 1-0 lead.

SHU broke a 4-all tie in the second with a 10-3 run and then had a comeback win in the third.

Siena Heights trailed 12-10 in the third before a 6-1 run helped the Saints take command for good.

Match two: Calumet 3, Siena Heights 0
Set scores: CCSJ 25-21, 25-17, 25-22

Arsenault and Rua finished with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Tucker had 25 assists and two aces.

The teams battled through 11 ties in the first set -- the last at 18-18 -- before a 4-0 Calumet run helped the hosts take a 1-0 lead.

CCSJ broke a 3-all knot in the second and held the rest of the way.

SHU looked to turn the match around in the third, taking an 11-6 edge, but the Crimson Wave battled back to pull into the tie. With the set at 20-20, Calumet took 5 of the final 7 points.
