Men's Volleyball Outlasts Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team outlasted Bethel (Ind.) for a 3-2 victory in WHAC competition on Saturday. Set scores, in favor of the Saints, were 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-7.

Jonathan Stovring had 12 kills and six blocks while Daniel Rua put down 10 kills.

Zak Tucker finished with 32 assists, 10 digs and five aces, although it was his only three kills which helped SHU take command in the deciding set.

Marc Arsenault totaled nine kills and three aces. Those three serves also came during the Saints' late surge.

Jakob Pickett compiled three aces and five blocks.

Siena Heights (5-6, 3-4) led the entire way in the first set after taking a 5-0 lead. Bethel led most of the second to even the match at 1-1.

A strong finish in the third helped the Saints take a 2-1 match lead. SHU trailed 19-18 before finishing with a 7-3 stretch.

Siena Heights had a chance to close out the contest in the fourth. It was behind 10-4 beofre chipping away and finally pulling into an 18-all tie. Bethel regained the lead with a four-point run before the Saints put themselves in position to end the day with a 6-1 streak, forging a 24-23 score before Bethel rattled off three straight.

The Saints hammered a .417 hit percentage in the fifth, breaking a 6-6 tie with a match-ending 9-1 run, led by Arsenault's serve and Tucker's attack. SHU had seven kills and two errors on 12 attempts in the set.

Siena Heights will return to action on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. WHAC home contest against Lawrence Tech.
