Men's Volleyball Comeback Falls Short Against Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team's comeback effort barely came up short as the Saints dropped a 3-2 contest to WHAC opponent Cornerstone on Tuesday at the SHU Fieldhouse. Set scores, in favor of the Golden Eagles, were 25-12, 25-23, 16-25, 22-25, 15-11.

Jonathan Stovring had 15 kills and two aces to lead the Saints while Daniel Rua added 11 kills and two aces. Marc Arsenault planted 10 kills for the Saints (3-6, 1-4).

Zak Tucker added 42 assists and two aces. Jonathan Meisen smashed three aces. Jakob Pickett totaled four blocks.

SHU trailed 2-0 in the match before coming alive in the third set. The Saints opened the third with a 9-2 run and held off a late Eagle charge with a set-closing 8-3 stretch.

The Saints battled through 15 ties with CU in the fourth -- the final knot coming at 21-21 -- before a 5-1 finish by the Saints helped them even the match at 2-all.

In the fifth, the Saints jumped out to a 4-2 lead before Cornerstone (7-0, 3-0) took the advantage for good with a four-point run. Siena Heights pulled within 13-11 before the Golden Eagles closed out the match.

Siena Heights will return to play on Friday with a trip to Goshen.
