Men's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Marathon To #RV Mount Vernon Nazarene

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team lost a five-set contest to WHAC opponent Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3-2, on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse. Set scores, in favor of MVNU were, 24-26, 21-25, 27-25, 25-14, 15-11.

Marc Arsenault had 15 kills while Daniel Rua totaled 12 kills and 11 digs. Jonathan Stovring added 11 kills.

Also for SHU (3-2, 1-1), Zak Tucker made 42 assists and Jacob Kisner had 24 digs. Rasi Bailey and Jakob Pickett put down eight and five total blocks, respectively.

The Saints won the first two hotly-contested sets, battling through 14 ties in the opener. The Cougars (3-1, 1-1) fended off two set points before a pair of MVNU errors helped SHU take a 1-0 lead.

The Saints fell behind 9-4 in the second set before chipping away to tie the contest at 10-10. Later, with the score 12-12, SHU went on a 10-4 stretch and led the rest of the set to go up 2-0.

Siena Heights nearly closed the match in the third, but Mount Vernon won the longest set of the day and carried that momentum through the fourth and fifth.

In the third, SHU fought off four set points before MVNU trimmed its deficit to 2-1. The Cougars scored the first two points in each of the next two sets, never trailing the rest of the day.

In the fifth, SHU closed its deficit to 7-6 before the Cougars took command with five straight points.

The Saints will return to action on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. home match against cross-town rival Adrian.
