Men's Volleyball Opens With Sweep of Goshen

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team opened its season with a sweep of WHAC opponent Goshen on Friday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Marc Arsenault led the way with nine kills and two aces as the Saints won with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-23.

Jakob Pickett added six kills and two aces. Rasi Bailey also put down six kills. Zak Tucker made 26 assists and Jacob Kisner smashed three aces.

The Saints' victory was the first victory under new head coach Tim Ebbecke.

Siena Heights (1-0, 1-0) never trailed in either of the first two sets. The Saints opened the first with a 4-1 run and then, in the second, faced eight ties before breaking an 11-11 knot with a 14-5 stretch. SHU ended the second on a 7-1 surge.

Goshen grabbed its first lead in the third set, taking an early 3-1 lead. Ultimately, the teams were tied 18-18 before a 5-0 SHU run gave it the lead. The Saints held the rest of the way.

Ishmail Bangura was Goshen's top attacker with 10 kills.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. WHAC contest against Bethel.
