Men’s Volleyball Loses Battle at #9 Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, IND. – The Siena Heights men's volleyball team lost a close battle with the ninth-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (9-3, 5-3 WHAC) were in every set but couldn't break onto the scoreboard in the 3-0 loss.

Ramon Matos finished the match with 13 kills and nine digs in the losing effort. Zak Tucker added five kills, six digs, and a service ace to his 32 assists. Joudiel Poveymirow led defensively with 11 digs from the backline.

In the opening set, the Warriors hopped out to a quick 3-0 lead. However, the Saints rallied back to cut the lead to 13-12. Indiana Tech held onto the lead but couldn't pull far away as the largest lead in the set came off a kill that gave the home team the setpoint, 24-18. Shevin Blades and Marc Arsenault tallied a kill to cut the lead to 24-20, but a service error gave the Warriors the point they needed to take the 1-0 lead.

Siena earned a 3-1 lead in the second that Indiana Tech erased with a 4-0 run that put the score at 5-3. SHU tied things at five points before building a slight lead of 9-7. Indiana Tech battled back to tie the score at 13. The rest of the set was competitive as the score was tied ten more times up to 28-28. The final two points went to the Warriors as they took the 2-0 lead in the extra-point decision.

The third began with a 4-1 lead for SHU. Again, Indiana Tech used a 4-0 run to swipe a 5-4 lead. However, the Saints continued to battle, and the score was tied at 10. The teams traded leads and tied the score multiple times to a deadlock at 20 points. Two kills by the Warriors and an attack error by SHU gave the home team a 23-20 lead. Siena earned two more points to bring the score to 24-22, but the No. 9 Warriors recorded the match-winning kill.
