Saints Roll to Another Sweep With Win Over Lawrence Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team earned its second-straight win in straight sets after defeating Lawrence Tech inside the SHU Fieldhouse on Friday night. The Saints (7-2, 3-2 WHAC) last five wins this season have come in straight sets.

Ramon Matos tallied a match-high 14 kills (.385) to lead the Siena Heights attack. Zak Tucker recorded 28 assists, three kills, one dig, and one block to pace play and helped SHU win. Joudiel Poveymirow held things down defensively with a match-high 13 digs. Shevin Blades totaled eight kills and two blocks, while Alex Garavalia and Jakob Pickett registered six kills in the winning effort.

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early 6-4 lead in the opening set, but the Saints rallied back to tie things at seven. The score remained close, with numerous ties late in the first. Jakob Pickett registered a kill that gave the Saints a set point. However, Lawrence Tech fired back with a kill that cut the deficit to one point before an attack error tied things up at 24 and forced extra points. A service error by the Blue Devils opened the door for Pickett to get another kill that ended the set and gave SHU the 1-0 lead.

The Saints used two 3-0 runs to pull ahead 12-6 in the second. The margin remained at six until a 4-0 run by LTU cut the advantage to 16-14. Blades and Tucker earned kills that advanced the lead back to four points as the Saints put the second set away with a 25-19 decision to take the 2-0 lead.

The third set was all SHU as a 10-2 lead was built early in the third frame. Lawrence Tech rallied to trail by just three points, 21-18, but the home team held on and outpaced the visitors to claim the 25-21 win to end the match in three.
