Keegan Crawford Reaches 4,000 Career Assists as Saints Finish Regular Season With 3-1 Win at MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Siena Heights men's volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-1 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene on the road on Saturday afternoon. Keegan Crawford finished with 40 assists which were seven more than he needed to reach the 4,000 career-assists mark.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 3, MVNU 1 (25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 25-23)

Location: Mount Vernon, Ohio

Records: Siena Heights (11-6, 7-5 WHAC), MVNU (8-10, 4-8 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The score was close in the opening set with both teams trading leads. There were also seven ties in the game, the last one was at 13 points. The Saints pulled ahead at that point, using a 4-0 run to lead 16-13 before adding a 5-0 run to jump forward 24-18 before taking the set and the 1-0 lead.

The second mirrored the first set with the competitiveness of the score. This time the teams tied eight times with the final draw coming at 22. Again, like the first set, the Saints tied the score for the final time at the start of a run before closing things out to move ahead 2-0.

The third was all Cougars as they built a commanding 10-1 lead and never looked back in the 25-15 decision.

The fourth was back and forth as Siena held the lead only to lose it to Mount Vernon Nazarene and then take it back. The Saints hurried toa  6-2 advantage at the start but the Cougars stormed back to knot things up 7-7. Siena built a 15-12 lead but a 4-0 run by MVNU switched the advantage to 16-15, Cougars. Two-straight points by SHU let them retake the lead until another 4-0 lead for the home team had them up 20-17 Siena rattled off a 5-0 run at the end to come from behind and take the set, 25-23, and the match.

TOP SAINTS

Kevin Gomez led the Saint attack with 18 kills. He also contributed six digs and five blocks.

Bryce Johnson finished with 15 kills and eight digs.

• Crawford added 12 digs to his totals to complete the double-double.

Joudiel Poveymirow recorded 24 digs in the win.

THE OPPOSITION

• Spencer Stanley had a double-double with 20 kills and 13 digs.

• Jaysen Matsumoto finished with 48 assists and 19 digs to lead in both categories.

• Caden Donaldson had 16 kills.

UP NEXT

The Saints will travel to Lourdes on April 2 for the first day of the WHAC Tournament. Semifinal matchups and times have yet to be announced.
