Saints Face Set Back at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team stumbled on the road against Indiana Tech on Thursday night in a 3-0 defeat. Keegan Crawford led the Saints with a 28-assist, 12-dig double-double in the losing effort. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Indiana Tech 3, Siena Heights 0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19)

Records: Indiana Tech (15-4, 10-2 WHAC), Siena Heights (10-6, 6-5 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Warriors jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set, but the Saints came roaring back to put things within one point of tying with a 4-0 run, 15-14. Indiana Tech pulled further ahead with a 3-0 run, 18-14. Another 3-0 run pushed the lead to 24-18 to give the Warriors set point. Siena Heights scored two straight points before Indiana Tech finished the set with a 25-20 win for the 1-0 lead. 

The Saints used a 6-0 run in the second to take a 17-7 advantage, but the Warriors hacked away at the deficit before using runs of 4-0 and 6-0 to pull out a 26-24 decision and take a 2-0 lead in the set score. 

Runs by Indiana Tech were the story of the match as they used a 5-0 run to take a 12-11 lead and a 4-0 to extend the advantage to 19-14. The Saints cut that lead to 21-18, but three-straight points by the Warriors ended the set and the match. 

TOP SAINTS

• Crawford needs just 33 assists to reach 4,000 career assists.

Bryce Johnson led the Saints with 13 kills. He also contributed seven digs. 

Kevin Gomez finished with 11 kills and three blocks in the loss.

Joudiel Poveymirow tallied 15 digs to lead the SHU defense.

THE OPPOSITION

• Daynte Stewart and Mason Milan led the Warriors with 10 kills. 

• Joey Hermes recorded 10 digs.

WHAC STANDINGS

The Saints currently sit fourth in the conference standings with a 6-5 mark. They can move into third place with a win on Saturday and a Goshen loss. Siena Heights has locked in at least fourth place to clinch a berth in the WHAC tournament that begins on April 2.

UP NEXT

The Saints hit the road on Saturday, March 27 to face Mount Vernon Nazarene in the final regular-season match of 2021. The match is scheduled for an opening serve at 3:00 p.m.
