HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set was competitive throughout as neither team made much of a run to pull away as the score tied multiple times back and forth. Siena and Aquinas traded points to a 24 point deadlock. Jakob Pickett finished a kill to give the home Saints set point and Johnson finished it with a kill of his own to give SHU the 1-0 lead.

The second set mimicked the first with several ties in the score up to a 13-13 stalemate. The home Saints then went on a 4-0 run to build a 17-13 lead and never looked back on the way to a 25-18 decision and the 2-0 lead.

Siena Heights came out on fire in the third, scoring the first five points of the set. Aquinas would rally back and cut the deficit to 6-5, but the host Saints jumped back ahead, 10-5. The lead grew as high as eight points, 23-15. Aquinas rallied back by scoring four out of the next five points, but Johnson shut the door with a kill to end the match.
