ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team marched past Goshen 3-1 on Thursday evening to improve to 4-4 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. Bryce Johnson had a great night with a season-high 18 kills to lead the Saint attack to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set remained close as neither team hit particularly well to start the match. After trading points and runs, the Saints scored two straight to hold a 23-20 advantage, but a 4-0 run by the Maple Leafs switch the momentum to the visitor's side. A service error by Goshen tied the score at 24, but the Saints failed to capitalize and the Maple Leafs scored the final two points needed to end the set and take a 1-0 lead.

Siena responded in the second, building a 10-6 lead early. Later on in the game, a 3-0 run by the home team pushed the lead to eight points, 15-7. The Saints would maintain that lead throughout the remainder of the second on the way to a 25-17 decision and a 1-1 tie.

The third was competitive as both teams traded points and the score remained close up to a tie at 15 points. The Saints took over from there, scoring four straight points and forcing a Goshen timeout. After the break, Siena completed a 5-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Maple Leafs would rally with a 4-0 run to knot things up at 22 points each, but SHU scored three of the last four points to earn the 25-23 win and take the 2-1 lead.

A 5-0 by the home team started the fourth set and the Saints would never surrender the lead to close out the match with a 25-20 win.
