GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team won 3-1 on the road against Aquinas on Tuesday night. Bryce Johnson had a big night with 16 kills and 11 digs for a double-double in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Aquinas hopped out to a 10-6 lead in the first set. The SHU Saints rallied back to a 12-12 tie before taking a 13-12 lead. The score remained close up to a tie at 17 before Siena Heights used an 8-0 run to end the set with a 25-17 decision for the 1-0 lead.
Set two was all Siena Heights as the visitors exploded for a commanding 13-4 lead. They eventually built that lead to double-digits with a 20-10 advantage. A 3-0 run extended things to a 24-11 lead and gave the blue and yellow set point. Elias Lubow tallied a kill to take a 25-12 victory and hold a 2-1 lead.
The AQ Saints pulled ahead with a 13-8 lead before building the lead further to a 21-13 edge. SHU cut the deficit to two points, 24-22, but Aquinas was able to tally another point to win the set and get on the board, 2-1.
The score remained close through much of the fourth set. The Saints held a four-point lead, the largest of the game with a 16-12 and 24-20 advantage. After two-straight scores from Aquinas, Siena Heights used a kill by Kevin Gomez to take the match.
TOP SAINTS
• Johnson finished with a .387 hitting percentage while adding a service ace and a block to his stat line.
• Gomez had a team-high 17 kills and a .343 attack percentage. He helped defensively with six digs.
• Alex Garavalia totaled 12 kills to the winning effort.
• Keegan Crawford hit 50 assists for the third time this season as he paced the Siena Heights attack.
• Joudiel Poveymirow led all players with 19 digs.
THE OPPOSITION
• Julian Armendano led the host Saints with 19 kills.
• Robert Valerio led defensively with 12 digs.
