Men's Volleyball Downs Cornerstone in Straight Sets

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team downed Cornerstone in straight sets on Wednesday evening. Kevin Gomez led the Saints with eight kills and seven digs in the win.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 3, Cornerstone 0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-14)

Location: Adrian, Michigan (SHU Fieldhouse)

Records: Siena Heights (4-2, 2-1 WHAC), Cornerstone (0-10, 0-7 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cornerstone played Siena tight in the first set. The Golden Eagles hit a solid .100 while the Saints hit just better than that at .125. The score tied five times early on, but the Saints were able to build a small lead and hold on to it for the 1-0 advantage. 

The second was all Siena as the team jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. That lead grew as the set moved forward and the Saints were leading 2-0 with a 25-10 decision.

Cornerstone hopped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. SHU eventually tied things up at 10 before using two 3-0 runs and a 4-0 run to pull away and seal the sweep. 

TOP SAINTS

• Gomez hit .294 in the match to help lead the Saints to victory. He added two assists to his other stats on the night.

Bryce Johnson recorded eight kills and six digs to contribute to the team's success.

Keegan Crawford finished with 28 assists, four kills, six digs, and three aces.

Joudiel Poveymirow led defensively with 14 digs. 

THE OPPOSITION

• Logan Chagdes had a team-high eight kills. Max Hernandez led with 21 assists and nine digs.
