Saints Fall in Four to Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team fell in four sets to cross-town rival Adrian in the SHU Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. Keegan Crawford paced the Saint offense in the losing effort with 36 assists on the night.

Final Score: Adrian 3, SHU 1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead after scoring eight of the last 10 points in the first set to earn a 25-17 decision. The Saints would rally in the second set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead at the start of the second game before eventually holding off Adrian for a 25-20 win and tying the set score at one game apiece. 

The score was tight throughout the first half of the set three before the Bulldogs were able to build an eight-point lead (24-16) before regaining a 2-1 lead in the set score. The fourth set was all Adrian, as the visitors jumped out to a 5-1 lead before eventually climbing to a double-digit lead (20-10) before ending the match with the 3-1 result.

The Adrian defense frustrated the Saints attack most of the night as the Bulldogs totaled 23 blocks to Siena's 13.

TOP SAINTS

Kevin Gomez, Alex Garavalia, and Emmanuel Chaidez each led the Saints with 10 kills in the match. Chaidez was also the leading blocker for SHU as finished with four.

• Crawford added four kills and 10 digs to his stat line. 

Emilier De Jesus led the Saints with a match-high 16 digs on defense.

THE OPPOSITION

• Noah Marcinkowski had a match-high 16 kills.

• Joseph Campana finished with 39 assists to pace the Bulldog offense.

• Kevin Curley finished with 15 digs while Mike Gold led all blockers with seven blocks.

UP NEXT

The Saints travel to face #6 Aquinas in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) road match on Saturday, February 23. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve.
