Gipple Leads Saints at SVSU Holiday Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Siena Heights Men's Track Team saw one automatic qualifier for the NAIA Indoor National Championship meet and one provisional qualifier at the opening SVSU Holiday Open on Saturday.

Matthew Gipple hit both the automatic and provisional marks for the Saints.  Gipple won the long jump with a leap of 7.14 meters to hit the automatic mark there.  He hit the provisional mark in the 60 meters with a dash of 6.88, finishing 2nd in the event.

The Saints saw a total of three first place finishes, four second place finishes, two third place finishes, three fourth place finishes, and one fifth place finish on the day.

The first place finishers included Gipple in the long jump, Jacob Harberts (4:28.45 in the one mile run), and Cedric Grant (2:00.23 in the 800 meters).

The second place finishers included Gipple in the 60 meters, Jacob Harberts (2:00.77 in the 800 meters), Gipple (22.08 in the 200 meters), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Jacob Sand, Nethanel Leupold, Cedric Grant, and Abdullah Nassr with a time of 3:27.70.

The third place finishers included Noah Cunningham (8.39 in the 60 meter hurdles) and Abdullah Nassr (1:22.74 in the 600 meters).

The fourth place finishers included Roman Iott (1.83 meters in the high jump), Wyatt Wesley (3.95 meters in the pole vault), and Jefferson Edwards (15.82 meters in the weight throw).

The fifth place finisher was Jacob Sand (52.50 in the 400 meters).

The Saints will return to action after the holiday break at the SVSU Invitational on January 13th, 2023.
