Matthew Gipple Sets New PR in 100 Meter at St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Chance Invite

JOLIET, Illinois – The Siena Heights men's track and field team traveled to Joliet, Illinois, to compete in the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15.

Matthew Gipple won the 100-meter relay with a time of 10.47, earning an NAIA A and B Standard. Gipple also set a new personal record (PR), besting his previous time by 0.16 of a second.

Cherrard Cohen took second in the 200-meter finals totaling a time of 22.78 seconds. The 4x100 team of Noah Cunningham, Davion Curry, Cherrard Cohen, and Matthew Gipple finished fifth overall, earning an NAIA B Standard with a time of 41.81. The 4x800 team of Abdullah Nassr, Joshua Cundy, Cedric Grant, and Jacob Harberts claimed third place in the relay while earning a B Standard and held a time of 7:44.22.

Matthew Gipple finished third in the long jump earning a B Standard for a distance of 7.19 meters. Davion Curry earned the fourth spot in the long jump event with a leap of 7.06 meters. Zachary Gipple competed in the shot-put event and placed third, earning a B Standard with a heave of 15.36 meters.

The Saints men's track and field athletes, that qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships will now head down to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to compete in the national meet that begins on Wednesday, May 25.
