SHU Men's Track and Field Finish Fourth in WHAC Outdoor Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Siena Heights University men's track and field team competed in the 2022 Outdoor Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship on Thursday, May 5th, and Friday, May 6th. SHU finished with a total of 138.50 points to claim fourth in the team standings.

Day one – Timothy Werner won the men's pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 4.60 meters. Noah Cunningham also finished first, competing in the javelin with a throw of 59.97 meters earning both an A and B Standard. Matthew Gipple placed second in the long jump with a leap of 7.07 meters, fourth in the javelin with a heave of 46.23 meters, and qualified for nationals in the 100-meter dash with a fifth-place showing with a time of 10.63.

The 4x800 relay team of Abdullah Nassr, Joshua Cundy, Cedric Grant, and Jacob Harberts placed third with a time of 7:51.59. Liam Hartsuff finished fourth in 10k with a time of 32:55.49. Alan Alston placed fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.15m. While, Sebastian Hamilton placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.16 meters. Noah Cunningham was able to qualify for the 110 hurdle finals with a seventh-place finish in the prelims with a time of 15.24 seconds. After day one, the Saints were second in the team standings with 61.50 points.

Day two - Jacob Harberts claimed first place in the 1500-meter race, running at a time of 3:58.20. Harberts was also able to place second in the 800-meter coming in at 1:57.72. Zachary Gipple earned both an A and B Standard in the shot-put, heaving a distance of 16.12 meters. Zachary Gipple also placed fourth in the discus event throwing 43.61 meters.

The 4x100 relay team of Noah Cunningham, Davion Curry, Cherrard Cohen, and Matthew Gipple placed second with a time of 41.83 seconds to earn a B Standard. Jefferson Edwards placed second in both the shot-put event with a distance of 14.31 meters and the discus with 44.26 meters. The shot-put event saw another Saint finish in the top five, as Sebastian Hamilton earned fourth with a throw of 14.13 meters.

Davion Curry earned fifth place in the triple jump leaping 13.88 meters, and seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.75 meters. In the 110-meter hurdles, Noah Cunningham finished sixth in the finals with a time of 15.35 seconds. SHU finished the WHAC Outdoor Championships in fourth place with a total of 86.83 points
