Two Throwers and the 4x100 Relay Team Compete for the Saints on Day One of NAIA Outdoor National Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The 2021 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Outdoor Track and Field National Championships kicked off on Wednesday, May 26, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Noah Cummingham was the top finisher for the Siena Heights men's outdoor track and field team with an 11th-place showing in the javelin throw.

Cunningham's best throw in the event was 55.72 meters (182-10) and put him three spots out of All-America status.

Zachery Kunst competed in the hammer throw. He improved his placing in the NAIA by 21-spots after a throw of 51.63 meters (169-4) gave him 21st in the event. His mark at nationals fell short of his personal-best heave of 51.76 meters that he threw at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays.

The SHU 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Davion Curry, Naythan Haslam, Noah Cunningham, and Matthew Gipple finished the first-round race with 42.19 to tie for 28th in the event. That placing was not enough for the group to advance to the championship race.

Kunst will compete today at 6:00 p.m., CDT, in the discus throw. He comes into the event ranked fifth in the NAIA with his career-best throw of 50.56 meters (165-10) that he achieved at the GVSU Tuesday Last Chance a few weeks ago.
