Ten Saints Earn WHAC Honors as Team Places Fifth at WHAC Indoor Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's track and field team finished fifth with a team score of 79 points at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Aquinas College on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Ten Saints earned WHAC honors on the weekend as 18 events were scored.

Zachary Gipple (So. | Coldwater, Mich.) won the shot put with a distance of 16.29m (53' 5.5"), which was a personal record and propelled him to 12th in the NAIA earning a spot on the All-WHAC First Team. He also had a distance of 12.77m (42' 2.25") in the weight throw finishing ninth, which was also a personal record. 

Rees Nemeth (Sr. | Hillsdale, Mich.) completed the pole vault with a height of 4.65m (15' 3") to claim second in the event earning an All-WHAC Second Team honor. 

The 4x800 relay team of Cedric Grant (So. | Clinton, Mich.), Jacob Sand (Fr. | Macomb, Mich.), Abdullah Nassr (Fr. | Dearborn, Mich.), and Jordan Parkinson (Sr. | Coldwater, Mich.) earned All-WHAC Honorable Mention as they placed third with a time of 8:09.02 that pushed them to 19th in the NAIA.

Jordan Parkinson also earned All-WHAC Honorable Mention as he had a time of 2:35.11 in the 1000m for third place, which was also a personal record. 

Davion Curry (Sr. | Detroit, Mich.) had a distance of 6.68m (21' 11") in the long jump finishing third and earning an All-WHAC Honorable Mention honor. He also claimed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.98m (42' 7"). 

OTHER TOP 10 FINISHES

Cedric Grant achieved fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:00.98. Sebastian Hamilton (Jr. | Colon, Mich.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 15.23m (49' 11.75"). He also earned fifth place with a distance of 13.87m (45' 6.25") in the shot put. 

Liam Hartsuff (Jr. | Chelsea, Mich.) had a time of 9:04.84 in the 3000m claiming fifth place. He also had a time of 15:41.99 in the 5000m for sixth place. The 4x400 relay team of Jacob Sand (Fr. | Macomb, Mich.), Cedric Grant, Naythan Haslam (Jr. | Wyandotte, Mich.), and Jordan Parkinson had a time of 3:33.79 placing fifth. Jacob Sand also placed sixth in the 600m with a time of 1:27.06. Matthew Gipple (Fr. | Coldwater, Mich.) earned a personal record as he achieved fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.49m (21' 3.5"). He also finished eighth in the 200m with a time of 23.21, which was also a personal record. 

Nathan Parker (So. | Macomb, Mich.) recorded a seventh-place finish with a distance of 1.76m (5' 9.25") in the high jump. Jason Baird (Sr. | Lake Fenton, Mich.) cleared the pole at a height of 3.75m (12' 3.5") earning seventh in the pole vault. He also claimed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 12.86m (42' 2.25"). 

Naythan Haslam (Jr. | Wyandotte, Mich.) finished eighth in the 800m with a time of 52.95. He also placed 10th in the 200m with a time of 23.52. Nathen Letson achieved a personal record in the mile with a time of 4:50.15 earning 10th place.

WHAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

Four members of the Siena Heights men's track and field team were named to the WHAC All-Academic team: Bradley Bauer, Rees Nemeth, Shane Skelcy, and Timothy Werner

CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER

Jordan Parkinson was the SHU representative on the Champions of Character Team.

CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER COACH

Head Coach Tim Bauer earned Champions of Character Coach for the Saints.

The Saints will compete in the NAIA Indoor National Championships on March 4th and 5th in Mount Marty, South Dakota.
