GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's track and field earned fourth place at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship, on Saturday. The Saints finished with two First Team All-WHAC performers and four Honorable Mention All-WHAC performers as four automatic-qualifying and one provisional-qualifying marks were earned. Four SHU team members were honored as WHAC All-Academic Performers.

Earning one of the two first place finishes for the Saints was Brent Rodden with an automatic-time of 1:54.64.

Winning the weight throw with an automatic-qualifying toss of 18.43m (60-5 ¾) was Jacob Compagner. The Saints took second and third with throws by Robert Drew, automatic 17.25m (56-7 14), and Zachery Kunst, 15.81m (51-10 ½). Drew also earned a provisional mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.15m (49-8 ½).

Devonte Johnson cleared the bar at 5.05m (16-6.75) in the pole vault to take third place, via tiebreaker, and to earn an automatic spot at nationals.  

The 4x800m relay team took third with a time of 8:11.53, including team members Thomas Mammel, Liam Heaney, Jordan Parkinson and Isiah Wyatt-Young.

Saints earning WHAC All-Academic honors: Robert Drew, William Jackson, Brent Rodden and Kyler Van Wormer.

The SHU Champion of Character recipient was Jacob Compagner.

In order to be named First Team All-WHAC, the athletes must win the event. To earn Honorable Mention All-WHAC status, the athletes must be second or third in their event. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

Athletes earning automatic-qualifying status and a select few garnering a provisional-qualifying status will travel to the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, March 1-3.
