Men's Track and Field Finish Runner-Up at WHAC Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Three different Saints earned first place as the Siena Heights men's track and field team finished as the runner-up at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship Meet, on Thursday and Friday.

Brent Rodden claimed first place in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.31, beating second place Indiana Tech runner by 0.08 seconds. Anthony Vermilye finished in fifth at 1:58.58.

Another Saint taking first place was Torin Anderson in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 53.90 seconds. Ryan Dukes came in sixth in 56.5 seconds.

Joshua Jenkins took first place in the javelin with a throw of 53.82 meters, over four meters further than the second place performer.

The Saints finished second in the 4x800 meter relay in 7:44.12. The team consisted of Dominic Muessig, Jareb Duggan, Vermilye and Rodden.

In the 4x100 meter, SHU claimed second in 42.63 seconds. Running was Javon McQueen, Shae McClary, John Gillingham and Dirk Smith.

SHU took second again to Indiana Tech in the 4x400 meter relay. Runners were Blaine Ellington, Robert Milton, Torin Anderson and Joshua Miles.

In the high jump, Keith Jordan claimed second place after clearing the bar at 2.08 meters.

Devonte Johnson finished second in the pole vault after clearing 4.90m. In sixth place was Jared Kimmitt with a vault of 4.45 meters.

Jacob Compagner took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.30 meters.

In the shot put, Robert Drew took third with a distance of 15.83 meters. Drew also claimed second place in the discus throw with a distance of 49.64 meters. Taking third in the discus was Zachery Kunst.

Taking second in the 1500m run was Vermilye who crossed the finish line in 4:00.91.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Javon McQueen finished fourth in 15.52 seconds.

Stephen Merchant took fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:33.04.

As a team, the Saints are headed to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships set for May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
