Men's Track and Field Take First Place at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's track and field team took first place at the Hillsdale Winter Opener with six first place finishes, including one NAIA automatic-qualifying mark and three provisional marks.

As a team, the Saints earned 153 points for first place. They were followed by Hillsdale with 135 points and Ferris State with 72 points.

Earning the lone automatic-qualifying mark of the meet was Dominic Muessig. He took first place in the 600m dash with a time of 1:21.66. The Saints took second and third with times of 1:25.05 and 1:25.29 by Ryan Dukes and Joshua Miles, respectively.

In the 1000 meter run, Brent Rodden finished first in 2:32.73 followed closely by Samuel Parlette at 2:33.15 for second place. Both runners finished within the provisional-qualifying time. Anthony Vermilye finished in third at 2:34.19.

Parlette also earned a provisional-qualifying in the one mile run, taking first place in 4:21.64. He was followed by second place performer Vermilye at 4:23.80.

Torin Anderson earned first place in the 400m dash with a time of 51.66 seconds, beating out the second place performer by .26 seconds.

The Saints took first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:28.90, almost two full second in front of second place Hillsdale. The team consisted of Duke, Vermilye, Rodden and Muessig.

In the 60 meter dash, Blaine Ellington earned second place with an improved time of 6.99 seconds, only 0.06 seconds short of provisional-qualifying marks.

Juwan Willis cleared the bar at 1.95m (6 feet, 4.75 inches) to earn first place in the high jump. Joshua Jenkins took second place with a height of 1.85 meters (6-0.75).

Jenkins finished in second place with an improved distance of 6.53m (21 feet, 5.25 inches) in the long jump.

Earning third place in the pole vault was Andrew Harrison, clearing the bar at 4.51 meters (14-9.5).

Jacob Compagner was the top SHU finisher in the weight throw with a distance of 15.97 meters (52 feet, 4.75 inches) to earn forth place.

The Saints will be back in action when they travel to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Jan. 14, for the SVSU Invitational.
