Richardson, Goynes NAIA All-American; NAIA Indoor Nationals -- Day 2

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Siena Heights men's track and field team competed in six different events on the second day of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, on Friday. Gerald Richardson and Tre' Goynes were honored as NAIA All-Americans while three others qualified for the finals in their event.

Richardson and Goynes took third and seventh, respectively, in the high jump. Richardson cleared the bar at 6-10.75 while Goynes cleared at 6-8.25.

In the 800 meter run, Dominic Muessig finished first in his heat and the best time for the preliminary race with 1:55.21. On his heels was Brent Rodden, finishing in 1:55.43 for fourth in his heat and sixth overall. Both men will be advancing to the finals.

Zakary Haines is headed to the finals for his performance in the 200 meter dash. He finished eighth overall with a time of 48.99 seconds.

Finishing for a season PR of 8.17 seconds, Frederick Boyd is advancing to the finals for his efforts in the 60 meter hurdles. Boyd took first in his heat and has the fastest time at the competition. Joshua Jenkins and Javon McQueen took 15th and 17th place, respectively.

Jacob Compagner and Paul Jacobs finished in 19th and 24th place in the weight throw. Compagner threw 53-10.25 (16.41m) while Jacobs threw 51-9.25 (15.78m).

Jenkins finished 12th overall in the heptathlon. Dealing with a hamstring after the first event, Jenkins fought back but it finally caught up with him in the final event, 1000m run. He finished with 4463 points overall.

The Saints will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, for the finals in the 60m hurdles, 400m dash, 800 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay. The preliminary and finals will take place for the following field events: shot put and pole vault.
