Men's T&F NAIA Indoor Nationals Recap -- Day 1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Siena Heights men's track and field team finished a successful first day of the 2016 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, on Thursday. The 4x400 meter relay team advanced to the finals, held tomorrow, while Joshua Jenkins held strong in sixth place through the first four events in the heptathlon.

The Saints' 4x400 relay team finished in 3:18.21, finishing second in their heat -- 0:00.04 behind Wayland Baptist (Texas) -- and fourth overall in the preliminary round.

Jenkins came in to the heptathlon ranking fifth in the NAIA. He is now holding strong at sixth with 2701 points after four of the seven events have finished. The leader has 3000 points.The remaining three events will take place tomorrow morning.

Jenkins scores are listed below:
60m dash: 7.28 seconds -- 785 points
Long jump: 21-00 (6.40m) -- 675 points
Shot put: 35-6.75 (10.84m) -- 536 points
High jump: 6-2.25 (1.89m) -- 705 points

Siena Heights will be back in action tomorrow for the semi-finals in 60m hurdles, 400m and 800m. The semi-finals and finals will take place tomorrow for the following events: weight throw and high jump.
