Four Men's Track & Field Athletes Take First at SVSU Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Dominic Muessig, Zachary Haines, Robert Drew and Richard DePalma each took the top spot in their event at the Saginaw Valley State University Classic, on Friday, for the Siena Heights men's track and field team. Collectively, the Saints had seven auto and two provisional performances.

Muessig improved his auto-qualifying time to 1:53.52 in the 800 meter run. He was followed by Brent Rodden who finished second with a provisional performance of 1:55.98.

The Saints took the top three spots in the 400 meter run. Haines finished with a provisional time of 49.17 seconds. He was followed by Juarrezz Smith at 49.63 seconds and Joshua Miles at 49.85 seconds.

Drew improved his auto-distance in the shot put to 52 feet, 2 inches (15.90 meters) while Logan Gray threw 51-4.5 for second place of 18 performers. Paul Jacobs took fifth place with a throw of 46 feet, 8 inches (14.22m) followed by Jacob Compagner who threw 46-3.5 (14.11m).

Siena Heights placed in the top three in the pole vault, DePalma at the top. DePalma cleared the vault at 16-4.75 (5.00m). He was followed by Noah Kinne and Jacob Hage who both cleared 14-5.5 (4.41m), Kinne winning via tiebreaker.

In the 60 meter hurdles, both Frederick Boyd and Joshua Jenkins ran auto-qualifying times. Boyd came in second at 8.25 seconds, followed closely by Jenkins who finished in 8.26 seconds. 

Demetrius Hughs came in fourth in the 60 meter dash at 7.15 seconds. In sixth place, Blaine Ellington finished in 7.20 seconds. 

Haines came in second out of 35 performers in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.33 seconds. Smith finished in fifth at 22.57 seconds. 

The 4x400 relay team consisting of Haines, Miles, Muessig and Smith finished in second with a time of 3:27.29.

Joshua Jenkins finished in sixth place with a distance of 21-11.75 (6.70 meters) in the long jump.

Campagner threw an auto-qualifying distance of 55 feet, 7.5 inches (16.95 meters) in the weight throw, earning second place. Jacobs threw 51-6.25 (15.67m) for fourth place followed by Drew, 48-10 (14.88m), in fifth place. 

Gerald Richardson earned second place after clearing the bar at a provisional height of 6-8 (2.03m). Tre' Goynes came in third, clearing 6-6 (1.98m).

Siena Heights will travel to Aquinas for the AQ Quad-Meet #2, on Friday.
