UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Samuel Parlette set a new school record and recorded an NAIA automatic-qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run as the Siena Heights men's indoor track and field team competed at Saginaw Valley State's Doug Hansen Open on Friday. As a team, the Saints had two event wins and three auto performances.

Parlette placed fourth in the 3K with an auto time of 8:28.94 on the oversized track. The performance broke the previous record of 8:31.26, which was set by Matt Geha in 1996.

Siena Heights pole vaulters finished 1-2 in their event as both performers recorded auto performances. Richard DePalma won with a height of 16-10 3/4 (5.15 meters) -- a two-inch improvement over his previous auto. Nicholas Goyette increased his auto mark by 4 1/4 inches when he cleared 15-11 1/4 (4.86m).

The Saints' 4x400 relay squad was also victorious Friday. The team clocked in at 3:20.68 and consisted of Torin Anderson, DeVonte' Sansom, Zakary Haines and Dominic Muessig.

On the season, the SHU men now have five automatic qualifiers and five provisionals.
