SHU Victory in Season Opener

Adrian, Mich.– The Siena Heights men's soccer team clinched their first win of the season. At home against cross-town rival Adrian College, in a 1-0 victory, making the team record 1-0 for the season.

Senior Timm Castro (1-3) led the Saints by sinking the winning goal in the 35th minute. Lewis Crombie collected the assist earning one point. Matheus Marrote and Alex Gregory each had one shot on goal while Mateo Rusca had two.

Early in the first half, Rusca shot back-to-back balls on goal, but unfortunately, unable to find the net thank to the Bulldogs goalie. Siena continued to remain in control of the first half, finding the netting near the half to take the lead.

Beginning the second half SHU stumbled as Adrian forced two offsides. However not to be outdone the Saints ramped up their efforts and stomped out any attempts at a comeback, sealing the victory. Dylan Vazquez and Crombie both made their collegiate debuts.

Quote from Coach: " I thought we played great and moved the ball extremely well in the first half. The second half was a bit of a struggle as Adrian picked up their pressure, and we didn't handle it as well as we could have. Tonight, was a learning experience, especially for our younger players, but I am happy with the result, and it's a good way to start the season."
