Saints Score Two Second-Half Goals to Win Second Straight WHAC Game

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team scored two goals in the second half to push past Concordia (Mich.) in a 2-1 win in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) game. The Saints (5-5-2, 2-4-2 WHAC) earn their second consecutive win in league play. The three points gained in the win move SHU up the conference standings to seventh with eight points.

Matheus Marrote scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute off a rebounded save. Marrote also registered two total shots on goal in the winning effort. Gustavo Barros scored the game-tying goal. Timm Castro, Nolan Chaput, and Barros led the Saints with three shots on goal. Joel Koshko, Josh Vernier, and Jonas Walter each registered a shot on goal. Jacob Wojciechowski (W, 4-4-1) made ten saves in the game to preserve the win for his team.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes of play with a long ball from Nicholas Corona. CUAA was forced to make four saves in the first half as Siena Heights held a 10-7 advantage in shots for the opening 45 minutes. 

Barros tied the score with his goal on an 18-yard shot that beat the goalkeeper in the opening two minutes of the second half. Marrote's rebound score gave the Saints the 2-1 lead at 74:24 of regulation. The Cardinals made eight saves while Wojciechowski made seven stops to keep Siena Heights ahead on the scoreboard.
