ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team started Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play with a 4-2 loss to Lourdes inside O'Laughlin Stadium on Saturday night.
Gustavo Barros scored his fourth goal of the season and Wilhem Weissheimer netted his first score in the losing effort. Juan Ortiz and Alex Hanosh both assisted on the SHU scores. Marcelo Rocha was the only other Saint to register a shot on goal during the contest. Matt LeBlanc (L, 1-1) kept the Saints in the game with four saves. He suffered his first defeat between the pipes for the season.
The Gray Wolves took the lead in the opening two minutes of regulation when Farouk Amoo headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Leon Eisert. Barros responded in the 29th minute with a shot outside the box that beat Lourdes goalie, Igor Silva, on the lower left side. The visitors earned an 11-7 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes of play. LeBlanc tallied three of his four saves in the opening half.
Amoo put the Gray Wolves back in the lead at 51:14 of regulation when scored another header off a corner. Savio Adams tallied the insurance goal less than four minutes later off a free kick that soared around the SHU wall and into the net from 27-yards out. Weissheimer then cut the deficit in half for Siena when he found a ball in the box from Hanosh and put it away with just under 30 minutes remaining in regulation. Amoo finished off the scoring with just 50 seconds remaining in a game that saw eight cards issued including a red card to Rocha in the 76th minute that forced the Saints to play the remainder of the game short-handed.
