Four Goal Second Half Propels Saints over Rochester in Final Regular Season Game

PONTIAC, Mich -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team rallied in the second half of the game scoring four goals to earn the 5-4 win against WHAC opponent Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. Gustavo Barros led the Saints as he scored the game-winning goal in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Warriors struck first as Travis Newman found the back of the net off a pass from Dmitar Stankovic at the. The Saints tied things up four minutes later when Uthman Babatunde slotted one past Wyatt Chunn off a pass from Alexander Mittag. Rochester went on to score three straight goals from Francisco Alvarez, Dmitar Stankovic, and Alex Popa with assists from Niki Gjonaj, Alex Popa, and Evan Mitchell to put them in the 4-1 lead at the half.

SHU rallied in the second half as they scored four straight goals as Gustavo Barros had three of those four goals including the game-winning goal as Remy Collard assisted one as well as the game-winning goal. Uthman Babatunde earned his second goal of the game that was assisted by Gaizka Zandio. The Warriors' final push came up short as the Saints were able to hold them off in the final 15 minutes of the game earning the 5-4 win. 

TOP SAINT

Gustavo Barros had three goals including the game-winning goal. 

Uthman Babatunde tallied two goals off three shots on goal.

Andrew Kozan led the Saints in goal with four saves off the eight shots on goal he faced.

THE OPPOSITION

• Travis Newman, Dmitar Stankovic, Francisco Alvarez, and Alex Popa each scored a goal.

• Dmitar Stankovic, Evan Mitchell, Alexa Popa, and Niki Gjonaj all had assists.

• Wyatt Chunn led the Warriors in net with six saves off the 11 shots on goal he faced.

UP NEXT

The Saints will wait for all the WHAC opponents to finish their regular-season games to see if they made it into the WHAC Tournament. They currently sit in eighth place out of 12 teams.
