Saints Start Spring Slate with Loss to Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team fell to (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) WHAC opponent Aquinas on Wednesday night to kick off their spring slate of the season. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Aquinas 1, Siena Heights 0 

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium) 

Records: Aquinas (3-0, 2-0 WHAC), Siena Heights (0-5, 0-5 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Aquinas' offense pressed as they registered eight shots in the first half compared to the Saints' five. At the 16:36 mark, Aquinas scored the game-winning goal as Theo Maye received a pass from Liam Travers on the right side of the box and slotted it past Andrew Kozan (L, 0-5). Neither team was able to net a ball the remainder of the half sending the game into halftime.

The remainder of the game was a scoreless deadlock as both teams exchanged possessions and had limited shots on goal. Siena gained momentum as they put up eight shots compared to Aquinas' six in the second half. SHU had four opportunities to score the equalizer as they had for shots on goal from Artur Becker, Gustavo Barros,  Gaizka Zandio, and Marcelo Rocha but came up short as Antonio Strassioto (W, 3-0) helped lead Aquinas to the win. 

Aquinas outshot Siena by one shot 14-13 and had six corner kicks compared to SHU's two. Aquinas tallied 14 fouls to Siena's 13.

TOP SAINTS

•  Barros had three shots and one shot on goal for Siena

• Kozan made three saves from four shots on goal between the pipes for SHU

THE OPPOSITION

•  Theo Maye had Aquinas' lone goal of the game while tallying three shots on goal.

•  Liam Travers had the assist from Theo Mayes goal

• Antonio Strassioto made four saves for Aquinas in net. 

UP NEXT

The Saints host Lawrence Tech in a WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) contest on Saturday, March 6th. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
