HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints set the pace for the game early on dominating possession of the ball. Artur Becker (Senior | Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) had a chance to put Siena on the board as he took a shot 15 yards out but hit the post. The Cardinals earned a penalty shot off a Saint yellow card that was in the box and Brett Kuhlman found the back of the net to give them the 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the game. Concordia earned another penalty shot 39 minutes into the game off a Siena foul in the box but Kozan (L, 1-2) made the save to keep the game close. The Cardinals had another chance to extend the lead before the half ended as Nyle Ellis had a breakaway and took a shot five yards out but Kozan once again made a big save. The Saints edged Concordia eight shots to seven in the first half.

The second half was much the same as the first half as Siena continued to dominate possession but were unable to find the back of the net to tie the game. The Saints had a couple of big chances to get on the board as Becker made a shot on Ryan Webb (W, 2-2) that caused him to come out of the box and leave the net wide open for Uthman Babatunde (Senior | Lagos, Nigeria) to score the goal but Webb managed to make the save. Concordia increased their lead 2-0 as Jordan Whitt took a shot but Kozan made the deflecting save and Ellis found the back of the net off the rebound 75 minutes into the game. Siena had their final chance to get on the board 86 minutes into the game as Gustavo Barros (Senior | Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) had a header off a cross from Matheus Marrote (Sophomore | Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) but it was punched out by Webb. The Cardinals outshot the Saints nine shots to seven in the second half and each team recorded two corner kicks on the game. The game was a physical one as Siena had three yellow cards and Concordia had two.
