Concordia Blankets Men's Soccer 3-1 in WHAC Matchup

ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Concordia, on Friday afternoon. Gustavo Barros (Junior, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) scored the Saints' lone goal on the game.

THE BASICS 

Final Score: Concordia 3, Siena Heights 1

Location: Ann Arbor, Mich. (Cardinal Stadium)

Records: Concordia (5-11, 3-6 WHAC), Siena Heights (6-9-1, 3-5-1 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints edged the Cardinals in possession the first half as they put up 10 shots compared to Concordia's seven. The half remained a scoreless deadlock as both teams were unable to connect the ball on the net.

The Cardinals continued to keep the ball in SHU's zone as they put up nine shots compared to the Saints' six. Concordia broke the tie as Anthony Tucker scored in the 50th minute of play to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. Tucker struck again 10 minutes later with Jacob Campbell picking up the helper. SHU was able to break the shutout in the 64th minute as Barros netted the ball from 20 yards out off a rebound. Concordia's final goal was scored in the 75th minute as Tucker chipped the ball over Saints goalkeeper Leo Hisamatsu (L, 3-6-1) from a 45-yard pass by Daniel Lynch. The final push for SHU came up short and the Cardinals held on for the win. 

TOP SAINTS

• Barros earned his fourth goal on the season.

Chris Ornelas (Senior, Belding, Mich.) recorded five shots, two of which were on goal.

• Hisamatsu made four saves in the contest for the Saints.

THE OPPOSING

• Tucker earned a hat trick.

• Campbell and Lynch each recorded an assist.

• Marino Moraccini (W, 2-3) made six saves in the winning effort for the Cardinals.

WHAC STANDING

The Saints dropped down a spot in the league standings and now sit in 8th place. The Cardinals moved up a spot as they are now in 10th place. The next two games are determinates of which top eight teams will make the WHAC Tournament and where it will be held as the top four seeds will host.

The Saints travel to face Aquinas in a WHAC contest on Wednesday, October 30th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
