Men's Soccer Fall to UM-Dearborn in WHAC Matchup

RIVERVIEW, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to UM-Dearborn, on Wednesday night. Chris Ornelas (Senior, Belding, Mich.) scored the Saints' lone goal.

Records: UM-Dearborn (3-5-0, 2-2 WHAC), Siena Heights (5-6, 2-2 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Wolverines were able to put themselves on the board first as Jacob Drzyzga netted a ball from an assist by Brendon Petz in the 7th-minute to give them the 1-0 lead. The half would remain a draw for nearly 21 minutes until Ornleas netted the equalizer for the Saints. Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the half and the game would remain a tie. UM-Dearborn edged SHU seven shots to three and three cornerkicks to two.

The second half was a battle between both teams and remained a deadlock. The Wolverines dominated as they put up 12 shots compared to the Saints five. With just three minutes left in the game, Christian Cuevas scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Petz. SHU tried to rally back to tie the game but came up short as time expired.

TOP SAINTS

• Ornelas scored his sixth goal of the season.

Arthur Aires (Senior, Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Ignacio Alvarez (Sophomore, Madrid, Spain) each recorded a shot on goal.

Andrew Kozan (L, 3-2) made five saves in 90 minutes of play for the Saints.

THE OPPOSITION

• Drzyzga and Cuevas each tallied a goal.

• Petz earned two asssists.

• Brian Ostapenko (W, 2-5) had two saves between the pipes for the Wolverines.
