Ed Maloney is in his 12th year as head coach of the Siena Heights men’s lacrosse program and he enters his 51st year of coaching collegiate and high school athletics.  He joined the Saints in the January of 2008 when he was hired as the team’s first coach.  He has a highly extensive background in both lacrosse and athletics in general.

Maloney has an 84-51 varsity record as the Saint’s coach.  He coached the Saints to 2 CCLA Division Championships (2015 and 2016) along with a WHAC Division Championship (2016).  In addition, he coached a team record 13 wins in 2015 and 2016 as well as receiving a bid to the MCLA 16 team National Tournament in 2015 and 2016 and a bid to the NAIA eight-team National Tournament in 2016 and 2018.

Maloney began his coaching career as a high school football coach and coached football for 43 years.  He began his lacrosse coaching career in 1991 and has served as both a high school and college lacrosse coach.

Throughout his career, Coach Maloney not only coached lacrosse but also started four different high school programs from scratch.  In 1991, he started his first lacrosse program at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights; in 1993, with Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods; in 1995 with Notre Dame Prep High School in Pontiac; and, finally, in 2003 with Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor.

Maloney spent a season in 2002 with the club team at Eastern Michigan University, where he posted a 10-4 overall record.  He would have stayed on with the Eagles, however, when Gabriel Richard came looking for a coach to start their lacrosse program, they didn’t have to look far as Maloney went on to begin their program.

Maloney’s experiences don’t simply stay on the field, as he has been an athletic director at five schools:  St. Joan of Arc, Croswell-Lexington, Riverview Gabriel Richard, Notre Dame Prep, and Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.

Maloney has served in countless capacities with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) throughout his long career.  He has served on the Boys Soccer Rules Committee, Girls Volleyball Rules & Site Selection Committee, Boys Lacrosse Committee, and the Girls Lacrosse Committee.

He was named 2008 Lacrosse Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Coaches Association and has been inducted into three different Hall of Fames: The Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame (1998), The Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Hall of Fame (2010), and The Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame (2010).

In 2015, Maloney was named the Coach of the Year in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA), the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), and the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division II National Coach of the Year.

Coach Maloney has made an immeasurable impact on the lives of countless young students throughout his coaching career.  He is a well-respected coach, who has the admiration of his opponents, his peers, and, most importantly, of his student-athletes.  Maloney and his wife Joan reside in Dundee, Michigan, and have four daughters.
