Men’s Lacrosse Pitch Second-Half Shutout to Advance to WHAC Semifinals

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team defeated Lourdes 7-3 in Tuesday night's first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The Saints (9-5) held Lourdes scoreless in the second half to keep their season alive.

Garnet Potter led the way for SHU with two goals and an assist. Potter also hauled in three ground balls and led the team with five shots on goal. Devin Plemmons scored once and tallied an assist. Fernando Robison had a team-high six ground balls while going 9-12 in faceoffs. Vinnie Jean (W, 9-5) had a great night as he made 13 saves, many of which came in crucial moments of the game to maintain the lead for Siena Heights.

The Grey Wolves got off to a hot start as the visitors scored the game's first two goals. Logan Hudnut put the Saints on the board with a goal at the 6:19 mark of the first. Then, Ryan Moore tied things up at two goals with a goal at 4:42.

Potter scored his first goal in the second quarter to give Siena Heights its first lead of the game, 3-2. Lourdes scored with 52 ticks left on the clock in the first half to tie the score again as the teams headed into the locker room.

Plemmons broke the tie in the third with a goal off an assist from Potter with 4:28 on the clock. That score ended up being the game-winner when regulation ended. Eric Csizmadia scored in the final minute of the third to extend the SHU lead to 5-3.

Potter shook the nets for a second time in the fourth to put the Saints ahead 6-3. Jake Gallaher put the nail in the coffin with a goal at 1:21.

Siena Heights advances to the semifinal round to face Aquinas in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Thursday, April 28. That game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
